SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, Bulacan – Facing mounting public outcry over persistent water supply failures, San Jose del Monte Mayor Rida Robes has severed the city’s joint venture agreement with PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp., a company owned by the Villar family.

The move, a centerpiece of Robes’ first 100 days in office, signals a bold attempt to resolve the city’s escalating water crisis.

“Our priority is ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for our residents,” Robes said.

“Terminating this agreement, while challenging, is a critical step toward securing a long-term solution that prioritizes the needs of our community.”

The decision follows months of resident frustration fueled by inconsistent water access and declining quality.

While acknowledging potential obstacles in establishing new water management protocols, Robes stressed her administration’s unwavering commitment to uninterrupted water service.

The city’s Water Task Force Tugon is implementing emergency measures, including daily water rations to the hardest-hit areas.

The city is also deploying intermediate bulk containers, repairing existing wells with enhanced filtration, and installing solar-powered water systems to bolster supply.

“As we await a comprehensive national solution to this crisis, our immediate focus is on alleviating the urgent needs of our citizens,” Robes said.

The termination of the PrimeWater agreement represents a turning point for San Jose del Monte, underscoring the city’s determination to prioritize essential services and pursue effective, long-term solutions to the water crisis.
