LTO Revokes License of Driver Who Rammed Teen Motorcyclist

MANILA, Philippines – A shocking video depicting a driver deliberately ramming a 15-year-old student on a motorcycle in Teresa, Rizal, last week prompted swift action from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), which permanently revoked his driver’s license.

The LTO’s decision came after the harrowing footage went viral, sparking public outrage and prompting an immediate investigation.

The disturbing CCTV footage shows the young motorcyclist being violently struck from behind, causing him to crash onto the pavement.

The LTO issued a show-cause order to the driver, whose name is withheld, but only the injured student and his parents attended the subsequent hearing.

The driver failed to appear or provide an explanation for his actions.

“The driver’s actions were utterly indefensible,” said LTO chief Markus Lacanilao.

“While reporting the alleged damage to his vehicle was an option, resorting to such violent aggression is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Lacanilao stressed.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez initially ordered the license revocation after viewing the video, which clearly shows the driver intentionally colliding with the student’s motorcycle, reportedly in retaliation for the student allegedly running over his vehicle.

The incident has also brought scrutiny to the student’s actions.

The LTO has suspended the student’s father’s license for one month for permitting his unlicensed 15-year-old son to operate a motorcycle.

The agency also noted that the student was driving without a helmet or side mirrors, disqualifying him from applying for a driver’s license for one year.

This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of road rage and the importance of responsible driving.

While the student’s violations were also addressed, the focus remains on the driver’s intentional act of aggression and the potential for fatal consequences.

The incident continues to fuel debate on road safety and the need for increased awareness and enforcement of traffic laws.
