MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directly intervened following a powerful social media appeal from an 11-year-old girl in Camarines Sur, exposing alleged widespread abuses by a village official and his associates.

The President’s swift, emotional response underscores a rare direct engagement with a citizen’s cry for help, circumventing traditional bureaucratic channels.

On March 30, a letter from the minor, posted on the Redeemer Homeless Mission Facebook page, detailed a harrowing account.

She alleged that the son and aide of a local “kagawad” (councilor) were responsible for the rape and impregnation of a friend in late 2022 and early 2023.

Beyond these grave accusations, the child depicted a community under siege, claiming the official threatened residents, stole essential utilities like electrical wires and water pump connections, and fostered an environment where “government people make life very difficult.”

Her poignant plea questioned the very foundations of governance: “How will we read if we are being raped? How will we read if our own government people cut our electrical wire so we have no lights?”

She emphasized, “We are kids; we are not involved in your political parties. I just want to go to school without being raped. So, can you please help us?”

Marcos Jr., deeply moved by the letter he described as bringing him “close to tears” and making him “very angry,” responded personally in the comments section.

He vowed immediate action: “I am sending policemen to you and your sisters to protect you and to find anyone who has hurt any of you. I will make sure that you will be able to continue reading and studying as much as you want.”

He further lauded the girl as “a very brave, intelligent, and very kind girl,” promising comprehensive assistance.

While the Palace has yet to confirm the execution of the President’s orders, this direct presidential intervention via social media highlights a critical emerging avenue for citizens to seek redress and demands immediate accountability from officials implicated in alleged abuses.

The incident brings to the forefront urgent questions about local governance, child protection, and the role of digital platforms in driving presidential action.
