Irish National Faces Deportation After Viral MMDA Incident

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) apprehended 64-year-old Irish national Michael Patrick O’Reilly following his viral altercation with a government-contracted tow truck and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel. The incident, captured on video, arose from the towing of O’Reilly’s illegally parked vehicle.

O’Reilly was arrested on July 13 at Camp Caringal, Quezon City, after BI intelligence operatives determined he violated the conditions of his stay in the Philippines and deemed him an undesirable foreign national. He is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Muntinlupa City, awaiting deportation proceedings.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the importance of foreign nationals adhering to Philippine laws and maintaining responsible conduct. “The privilege of residing in the Philippines demands respect for our laws and our people,” Viado stated. “Foreign nationals exhibiting violent, abusive, or disruptive behavior will not be permitted to remain in the country. We will not tolerate undesirable aliens who undermine public order or disregard the rule of law.”

This arrest underscores the BI’s commitment to removing foreign nationals whose actions threaten public order and safety. The Bureau reaffirms its enforcement of immigration laws against those who violate Philippine statutes.
