ANACONDA, Montana – At least four people died in a shooting incident at a bar Friday morning, prompting a statewide manhunt for the suspect.

The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation identified the suspect as Army Veteran Michael Paul Brown.

Authorities advised the public to steer clear of the area as Brown “is armed and dangerous.”

The motive behind the attack has yet to be determined.

Cassandra Dutra, a bartender at The Owl Bar, said those killed were a bartender and three customers.

Bar owner David Gwerder expressed disbelief, saying he was unaware of any prior disputes involving the suspect and the victims.

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte took to X to address the situation, affirming that he was “closely monitoring the situation in Anaconda.”

Rep. Ryan Zinke urged residents to “remain indoors and secure their homes.”

The case marked the 256th mass shooting incident in the United States since 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
