GDANSK, Poland – In a bold move to address Poland’s declining birth rate, a national hotel chain is offering couples a unique incentive: a free celebration if they conceive a child during their stay.

Władysław Grochowski, owner of Arche Hotels, hopes the initiative will spark a baby boom and reverse the country’s concerning demographic trend.

Poland, like many nations, faces a demographic challenge.

In 2023, the country recorded a fertility rate of just 1.2 live births per woman, a stark contrast to the 2.06 births recorded in 1990.

This decline has prompted Grochowski to take unconventional action.

Arche Hotels, with its 23 locations and over 4,000 rooms across Poland, is now offering a complimentary family celebration in one of its event rooms or restaurants to eligible couples who conceive during their stay.

The family of the first baby born as a direct result of the program will also receive a stroller and a welcome package.

“We hope to create a fun and memorable experience for couples while contributing to a brighter future for Poland,” Grochowski said.

However, participation comes with conditions: couples must be residents of Poland, and at least one parent must hold Polish citizenship.

While unusual, Arche’s initiative is not entirely unprecedented.

In 2020, the Canadian chain Hotel Zed offered free stays to couples who conceived on Valentine’s Day.

Similarly, New York’s Walker Hotel Tribeca offered a “self-love” package in 2024.

These promotions highlight a growing trend of hotels offering creative and engaging experiences to attract guests.

Arche Hotels’ initiative is a novel approach to a serious national issue.

Whether it will successfully boost Poland’s birth rate remains to be seen, but the promo has sparked conversation and creativity in the hospitality industry.
