MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Airlines (PAL) has officially ushered in a new era of aviation, becoming the first carrier in Southeast Asia to operate the cutting-edge Airbus A350-1000.

The arrival of the next-generation widebody aircraft in Manila marks a pivotal moment for the flag carrier, solidifying its commitment to long-term global growth and passenger experience.

The historic event followed a formal handover ceremony in Toulouse, France, where PAL Holdings Inc. President Lucio Tan III, accompanied by key executives, including PAL Board Adviser Kyle Tan, PAL President Richard Nuttall, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Carlos Luis Fernandez, accepted delivery of the first of nine A350-1000s destined for the airline’s expanding fleet.

The acquisition underscores PAL’s dedication to providing passengers with unparalleled comfort and connectivity on its long-haul routes, particularly across the Pacific.

The A350-1000 boasts a meticulously designed tri-class cabin, accommodating 382 passengers with a focus on premium travel: 42 Business Class seats, 24 Premium Economy seats, and 316 Economy seats.

“The arrival of the A350-1000 marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to fleet modernization and network growth. It will be a source of Filipino pride and a transformational step for our airline,” said Tan, highlighting the aircraft’s significance.

The addition of the A350-1000 brings PAL’s total fleet to 82 aircraft.

Powered by the formidable Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 turbofan engines, each generating up to 97,000 pounds of thrust, the A350-1000 promises enhanced operational efficiency and reliability.

Beyond performance, the A350-1000 represents a significant leap forward in sustainable aviation.

The aircraft boasts a remarkable 25% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions compared to previous-generation models.

It is designed to operate with sustainable aviation fuel, further minimizing its environmental footprint.

With the landmark Airbus acquisition, PAL is not only elevating the travel experience for its passengers but also charting a new course toward a more sustainable future for aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.
