MANILA, Philippines – Police have arrested a suspect in the death of a teenage girl who was hit by a stray bullet in Tondo on Christmas Day.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso yesterday presented to the media Bingber Kyle Enaje, 24, the suspect in the killing.

Enaje, an alleged member of the “Batang City Jail” gang, was apprehended on Monday (Jan. 19, 2025) in Tondo.

A report by the Manila Police District (MPD) states that officers responded to a tip about a man brandishing a firearm and causing a public disturbance.

Enaje was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed handgun.

“Our officers acted swiftly to apprehend the suspect and secure the weapon after receiving information about an individual causing alarm and carrying a firearm illegally,” Domagoso said.

The arrest came weeks after the tragic death of the young woman who was visiting her boyfriend’s home when she was struck by a stray bullet.

The victim was not identified pending further investigation.

The incident sparked widespread outrage and fueled demands for immediate action to curb gun violence in the city.

Authorities are preparing to file charges against Enaje, including homicide, violation of Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code (Alarm and Scandal), and violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

The case will be submitted to the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.

“Rest assured, if you are wronged, abused, or victimized, your city government will go after the perpetrators, wherever they are, whoever they are,” Domagoso said.

The investigation is ongoing, with police exploring Enaje’s potential involvement in other criminal activities.
