PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Philippines – Joanna Jonson-Infante, acting manager of Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPIA), was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The incident occurred at approximately 5:28 PM near the airport premises, shortly after Infante left the facility around 5:10 PM, according to CAAP.

Infante, appointed airport manager in January 2025, was reportedly walking past parked vehicles when an unidentified assailant shot her in the back. Security footage obtained by police shows Infante collapsing to the ground as the gunman fled the scene.

The CAAP released a statement Thursday condemning the “senseless act of violence” and urging authorities to conduct a “thorough and expeditious investigation” to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“CAAP expresses grave concern over this senseless act of violence and calls on the appropriate authorities to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law,” the statement read.

The agency is cooperating fully with local law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her loved ones during this critical time. We trust that law enforcement will pursue this case with urgency and ensure that justice is served,” stated CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown. Police are currently reviewing the CCTV footage and conducting interviews to gather leads. The investigation is ongoing.
