MANILA, Philippines – In a resolute push to bolster national security and uphold the integrity of its borders, the Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) has significantly intensified its efforts against foreign fugitives, leading to the apprehension of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese nationals wanted for serious offenses.

These decisive operations, conducted by the BI’s elite Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) in close collaboration with international law enforcement partners, underscore the crackdown on transnational crime and enhance border security.

Japanese Fraud Suspects Nabbed in Batangas

On April 8, a meticulously planned operation in Lian, Batangas, resulted in the arrest of two Japanese nationals, Takahashi Yuta, 45, and Sugita Yuki, 39, both males, wanted by Japanese authorities for fraud.

Apprehended by BI-FSU agents at Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Matabungkay, their capture was a testament to robust inter-agency coordination involving the Philippine National Police – Intelligence Group and the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO 4A.

Japanese authorities confirmed that both Yuta and Yuki are subjects of arrest warrants issued by the Omiya Summary Court in 2024 for violations of Japan’s penal code.

The fugitives, who entered the Philippines on January 4, 2024, as temporary visitors, had since overstayed their authorized periods. Both individuals had also been flagged within the BI’s system as undesirable aliens and fugitives from justice, highlighting the efficacy of intelligence sharing.

“Through close coordination with our international partners, we will continue to track down, arrest, and deport these individuals to uphold the integrity of our borders,” BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval affirmed. The apprehended Japanese nationals are currently held at the BI Warden’s Facility, awaiting deportation proceedings.

Korean and Chinese Fugitives Apprehended in Pampanga and Parañaque

Just two days prior, on April 6, the BI-FSU executed separate, equally successful operations in Pampanga and Parañaque City.

In Angeles City, Pampanga, BI-FSU agents, working with international law enforcement partners, apprehended **Kim Namhoon, a 48-year-old Korean national**, who was wanted in the Republic of Korea for fraud.

An arrest warrant for Kim was issued by the Seoul Nambu District Court in October 2017, detailing allegations that he forged a construction subcontract in 2014, subsequently defrauding a victim of approximately 30 million Korean won. Kim was also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and had been overstaying in the Philippines since 2017.

Adding to the complexities of the Pampanga operation, agents also arrested Kim Kyoung Rei, a 34-year-old Korean national, on suspicion of harboring the fugitive. Kim Kyoung Rei failed to produce valid immigration documents upon inspection, raising further questions regarding his presence in the country.

Later that same day, BI-FSU agents swiftly moved to a residential complex in Parañaque City, apprehending Wang Weixiao, a 36-year-old Chinese national.

Wang was sought by Chinese authorities on a detention warrant issued in October 2022 for money laundering. Information from Chinese authorities revealed Wang’s involvement in a scheme that laundered over one million yuan in fraudulently obtained funds between February and August 2022, utilizing digital payment platforms and bank transfers. Records indicated that Wang had overstayed his visa since March 2025.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado lauded the BI’s operational successes, emphasizing the bureau’s unwavering resolve. “We will relentlessly pursue and remove individuals who attempt to evade justice by hiding within our borders,” Viado warned, sending a clear message to would-be fugitives.

All apprehended individuals are currently held in BI custody and are undergoing deportation proceedings, marking a continued and decisive effort by the Philippine government to maintain order and security within its jurisdiction.
