PASAY CITY, Philippines – In a powerful blow against cybercrime, the National Bureau of Investigation’s Special Action Unit (NBI-SAU) has successfully dismantled a highly organized and technologically advanced online scamming operation in Parañaque City. A planned entrapment operation, executed on Friday, April 17, 2026, culminated in the apprehension of 48 individuals, exposing a criminal enterprise preying on unsuspecting victims through a web of deceit.

The decisive action by the NBI-SAU followed credible intelligence detailing a syndicate entrenched in various forms of digital fraud. The group was engaged in a trifecta of online deception: sophisticated “Love Scamming,” the insidiousPig Butcheringcrypto fraud, and elaborateCryptocurrency Investment Fraud.”Following an intensive verification process, NBI-SAU agents secured a crucial Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) for specific condominium units in Parañaque, authorized by the court.

Upon receiving the judicial mandate, NBI-SAU agents executed the operation with precision, strategically securing the targeted condominium units to prevent any potential destruction or tampering of vital digital evidence. Inside, investigators discovered a fully operational, clandestine facility reminiscent of a legitimate call center.

This setup featured numerous interconnected computer workstations, an array of laptops, multiple mobile devices, robust internet routers, and other sophisticated technological equipment, all indicative of a large-scale, professionalized scamming hub.

A forensic examination of the confiscated computer units yielded damning evidence: an extensive library of pre-prepared scripts. These digital blueprints outlined step-by-step conversational strategies, designed with psychological precision to ensnare potential victims. This discovery pointed to a highly organized, systematic, and psychologically manipulative approach to their fraudulent activities.

The perpetrators leveraged emotional manipulation and misleading narratives to cultivate trust with their targets, often adopting elaborate false identities that portrayed them as individuals genuinely seeking romantic connections. Victims, once emotionally compromised, were coerced into sending substantial sums of money under the guise of fabricated emergencies, illusory investment opportunities, or urgent personal crises.

These illicit transfers were overwhelmingly facilitated through a complex network of cryptocurrency wallets, ensuring anonymity and complicating tracing efforts. The syndicate maintained relentless communication, continuously soliciting further financial contributions from their increasingly desperate victims.

With undeniable evidence of ongoing, large-scale online scamming activities confirmed at the location, NBI-SAU agents apprehended 48 individuals. This diverse group comprised 41 female Filipino nationals and 7 foreign nationals, all found to be actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the sophisticated scam hub.

The detainees have since been presented for inquest proceedings, facing severe charges for violations of Section 4(b)(2) (Computer-Related Fraud) of Republic Act No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and Republic Act No. 12010 (Anti-Financial Scamming Act or AFASA Law).

NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag lauded the NBI-SAU agents for their exceptional diligence, meticulous planning, and effective execution in dismantling this intricate and dangerous online fraud network.

Director Matibag issued a stern warning to all individuals considering or participating in such illicit activities, asserting that the NBI will pursue and prosecute offenders with unwavering vigor, ensuring that justice is not only served but seen to be served.

He reiterated the NBI’s steadfast commitment to protecting the public from the pervasive threats of online crime and the predatory tactics of cybercriminals, underscoring their ongoing initiatives in cybercrime prevention and the safeguarding of citizens in the rapidly evolving digital realm.
