BRISBANE, Australia – A six-year-old boy, Pranay Teja, tragically collapsed and died in his classroom at a private school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, moments after being slapped by his teacher, identified as Anuradha, for incomplete homework. This harrowing incident, captured on CCTV, has ignited widespread outrage and prompted a comprehensive investigation.

The shocking footage reveals young Pranay, visibly distressed, standing in line with his slate. He appears to plead with the teacher before she forcefully pulls him closer and strikes him across the cheek. Immediately following the slap, Pranay collapses onto the teacher, his life cut short in a matter of seconds.

School staff, alerted to the emergency, attempted CPR before rushing the unresponsive child to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Authorities have launched a dual inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Pranay’s death. Visakhapatnam Revenue Divisional Officer Sadhu Dileep Chakravarthy suggested that the boy may have suffered a cardiac arrest induced by panic. However, medical professionals caution against drawing premature conclusions, emphasizing that the post-mortem examination is essential for determining the exact cause of death.

Pranay’s body has been transferred to King George Hospital (KGH) for an autopsy. KGH Superintendent Dr. I. Vani stated, “We cannot immediately ascertain whether he suffered cardiac arrest due to panic or any other reason” without the findings of the post-mortem. The boy’s parents have consented to the procedure, which doctors confirm will provide definitive answers.

The family insists that Pranay exhibited no signs of illness before attending school. His father reported that the boy was playing normally the previous evening and had insisted on going to school that morning.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The post-mortem results are eagerly awaited, as they will be crucial in understanding why a six-year-old boy suddenly collapsed and died after a teacher’s slap. This tragic event highlights the urgent need for vigilance in child safety and the implementation of appropriate disciplinary practices within educational institutions.
