RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia resonated with national fervor as it celebrated its 96th National Day on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Under the slogan “Our Pride Lies in Our Nature,” the nation commemorated the 1932 unification by King Abdulaziz Al-Saud with a spectacular nationwide display of fireworks, drone formations, military exhibitions, cultural showcases, and public jubilation. These meticulously orchestrated events honored a pivotal historical moment while showcasing the Kingdom’s rapid advancements, closely linked to the transformative Vision 2030 agenda.

Skies Ablaze: A Symphony of Light and Innovation

Across the Kingdom’s major cities, the night sky became a canvas for awe-inspiring displays. The General Entertainment Authority orchestrated synchronized drone and fireworks shows, painting intricate patterns inspired by the National Day identity. Riyadh’s iconic Boulevard City pulsed with vibrant green light, mirroring the colors of the Saudi flag, while King Fahd Road and other principal thoroughfares glowed in patriotic hues. Similar pyrotechnic marvels illuminated Jeddah, Al Khobar, Madinah, Hail, Arar, Al-Baha, Tabuk, and Buraidah, captivating citizens and residents. The Saudi Broadcasting Authority provided live coverage, ensuring the entire nation witnessed these breathtaking aerial ballets.

Precision and Power: Demonstrations of Military Might

The celebrations included formidable displays of military prowess, drawing massive public attendance. In Riyadh, the Exhibition and Convention Center in Malham hosted two days of air and ground shows featuring diverse military and civilian entities. The skies showcased the agility of Security Aviation helicopters, the formidable Black Hawk fleet of the Ministry of National Guard, and aircraft from the Royal Saudi Land Forces and Royal Saudi Naval Forces. Civilian aviation, including Aloula Aviation and the Saudi Aviation Club, also participated, their aircraft emblazoned with National Day insignias.

Al Khobar’s waterfront provided a dynamic stage for combined military air and naval demonstrations. Aerial flypasts, a majestic display of naval vessels, land formations, and precision military band performances underscored the nation’s defensive capabilities. Specialized showcases, including naval aviation maneuvers and diver deployment and recovery operations, further highlighted the advanced training and readiness of Saudi forces.

Cultural Tapestry: A Celebration of Heritage and Community

Beyond the grand spectacles, the National Day festivities deeply engaged with the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and community spirit. From the Eastern Region to Asir, cities and governorates resonated with patriotic songs, poetry recitations, and traditional performances like the Saudi Al-Ardah dance. Families, youth, and children participated in vibrant vehicle parades, transforming public spaces into lively hubs of celebration.

In Al-Baha, thousands gathered to witness the traditional Ardah, a powerful expression of regional identity and national pride. Qassim adorned its roads and public squares with over 20,000 Saudi flags, its buildings bathed in green light, complemented by interactive light displays and National Day imagery on digital billboards. Al-Ahsa orchestrated a grand parade along King Abdullah Ring Road, featuring governmental and security entities, health and service sectors, folk dances, national chants, classic and modified car displays, and equestrian shows. Makkah’s celebrations extended across parks, malls, and public spaces, offering artistic performances, national songs, and family-centric activities, alongside the distribution of flags and commemorative gifts. Najran similarly embraced the celebratory spirit with widespread decorations, artistic installations, and communal gatherings.

In Madinah, Governor Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz led a formal ceremony at the King Salman International Convention Center, featuring the royal anthem, Quranic recitation, and a poignant poem honoring King Abdulaziz’s monumental role in unifying the Kingdom.

Qiddiya City’s Inaugural National Day Festivities

Adding a modern dimension to the celebrations, Qiddiya City marked its first National Day since opening to the public. Entertainment, cultural, and interactive events unfolded at Six Flags Qiddiya City and Aquarabia. The celebrations culminated with captivating light shows and roaming performers, as Qiddiya’s unique slopes were dramatically illuminated in green, creating a mesmerizing blend of light, motion, and sound. Festivities at Aquarabia are slated to continue through September 26, while Six Flags will host stand-up comedy performances on September 25 and 26. The next National Day air shows are scheduled for Al Khobar on September 26 and 27.
