SUBIC, Philippines – In a swift and assertive move, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has initiated a comprehensive, high-priority investigation into a troubling incident at Subic Bay Freeport. The probe centers on the alleged unauthorized attempt by a group of foreign nationals to seize control of private resort facilities on April 8, raising serious questions about national security and the rule of law.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado has personally ordered an immediate and thorough verification of the identities, immigration status, and activities of all individuals implicated in the alleged incident. Of particular focus is American national Timothy Desmond, reportedly among the group that attempted to gain unlawful entry to the premises.

“We will not tolerate foreign nationals exploiting their presence in this country to interfere in domestic affairs or to disrupt public order,” Commissioner Viado declared, underscoring the gravity with which the BI views the allegations.

Further demonstrating the uncompromising nature of the investigation, Viado has mandated close coordination between concerned BI units and key national agencies, including the National Police Commission, the Philippine National Police, and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. This collaborative effort aims to meticulously establish the full and unvarnished circumstances surrounding the controversial incident.

The Commissioner’s directive extends to an exhaustive review of the visa status and travel history of all involved parties. This includes a rigorous evaluation of potential grounds for their inclusion in the immigration watchlist or blacklist, and the immediate initiation of deportation proceedings should any violations of Philippine immigration laws be conclusively established.

The BI unequivocally reiterated its firm stance: foreign nationals are strictly prohibited from engaging in any activities beyond the legitimate scope of their authorized stay. This includes, but is not limited to, involvement in local disputes or attempts to assert control over private entities without due legal authority.

“Any foreign national found to have abused the privilege of staying in the country will face the full force of the law, including immediate deportation and permanent blacklisting,” Viado affirmed, sending a clear and potent message to all who may seek to circumvent Philippine sovereignty.

The Bureau assures the public of its unwavering commitment to act swiftly, decisively, and without prejudice to uphold Philippine laws and to resolutely protect the nation’s vital interests. This high-profile investigation serves as a stark reminder of the BI’s vigilance against any external threats to order and national integrity.
