Veteran journalist Jerome Aning joins TheNationWeek.com!

His weekly column, “From the Fringes,” will be published every Friday, starting July 10.

“It is a great honor to join TheNATIONWEEK.com, and I am thankful for the confidence of its owner-publisher, my media colleague and friend, Bing Jabadan. A journalist’s passion for storytelling needs a platform, and I am seizing this exciting opportunity to transition to alternative and online media after a long tenure in print news,” he stated.

Mr. Aning concluded his career in 2025 as the most senior reporter, in terms of length of service, at the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI). Having covered all national and political beats, either as a regular reporter or reliever, he brings nearly 30 years of expertise and experience in the media industry to TheNATIONWEEK.com.

His column will explore a wide range of topics from a journalist’s perspective, including news and public affairs, culture, lifestyle, advocacy for various causes, and special interests.

“Through my column, I hope to impart knowledge and opinions to readers as I revisit and share little-known aspects or details of stories about people, places, events, ideas, and causes that I encountered as a journalist. From the fringes, we will bring these narratives to the center, at least in my column. On a lighter note, I’ll also write about hobbies, geek and pop culture, history and heritage, reviews, and DIY projects—all based on personal and professional experience,” he added.

Mr. Aning graduated cum laude with a degree in AB Journalism from the University of Santo Tomas in 1997. As a PDI scholar, he joined the newspaper, where he built his professional career amid the evolution of the country’s media landscape. While a reporter, he also became active in the PDI Employees Union, serving as its last and longest-serving president.
