CAINTA, Rizal – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has taken into custody a driver for a popular ride-hailing app for allegedly raping and robbing a female passenger.

Michael Lou Reuyan was arrested on Thursday in an operation by NBI agents, according to bureau chief, Director Jaime Santiago.

His arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by the victim, who alleged that the driver sexually assaulted her after she fell asleep during a ride on June 15 at about 3 a.m.

The victim alleged that she awoke to find the vehicle stopped and Reuyan on top of her.

Despite her pleas to let her go, the suspect allegedly continued to assault her when she attempted to resist.

When Reuyan moved to the front seat of the vehicle, the victim managed to escape and seek help from residents in the area.

During her escape, Reuyan allegedly stole her bag containing an iPhone 16, personal belongings, and a necklace valued at P35,000.

The victim, accompanied by her parents, filed a formal complaint with the NBI-National Capital Region the next day.

The NBI immediately launched a pursuit operation, tracing the vehicle’s registration to Reuyan’s residence in Cainta.

After hours of surveillance, NBI agents observed Reuyan riding an electric bike, and they moved in to make the arrest.

Reuyan was subsequently presented for inquest proceedings.

“This is a deeply disturbing case, and we commend the NBI-NCR agents for their swift and decisive action in apprehending the suspect,” said NBI-National Capital Region Director Ferdinand Lavin.

“We will be forwarding our investigation findings to the Land Transportation Office for appropriate disciplinary action against the driver.”

Director Santiago echoed Lavin’s sentiments, praising the NBI-NCR team for their dedication and efficiency in bringing Reuyan into custody. The suspect now faces serious charges of robbery with rape under the Revised Penal Code.
