NEW YORK – A lone gunman opened fire in a Manhattan office building on Park Avenue Monday evening, killing four people, including an off-duty police officer working as a security guard.

The shooter, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

The incident occurred at 345 Park Avenue, a prominent office building housing the corporate headquarters of the National Football League and investment firm Blackstone, among others.

One of the victims was identified as New York Police Department Officer Didarul Islam.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed Islam was working as a security detail at the time of the shooting.

“The lone shooter has been neutralized,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a late-night press conference.

According to police, Tamura arrived at the building in a double-parked black BMW between 51st and 52nd Streets.

Surveillance footage showed him entering the building’s lobby and immediately opening fire.

After allowing a woman to exit an elevator unharmed, Tamura proceeded to the 33rd floor, the location of the Rudin Management Company, a major New York real estate firm.

On the 33rd floor, Tamura fatally shot another individual before retreating to a stairwell where he took his own life with an assault rifle, Tisch said.

Investigators discovered additional weapons and a prescription in Tamura’s name inside the parked BMW.

They believe Tamura drove across the country, making stops in Colorado, Nebraska, and Iowa before arriving in New Jersey.

The NYPD described the shooting as an isolated incident.

The city’s FBI field office provided support at the scene, and officials initially advised those in the vicinity to shelter in place.

The shooting prompted an NFL security alert, according to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, instructing employees not to exit the building.

U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed his condolences, stating he was “praying hard” for the NYPD officer.

“May God watch over our city during this challenging moment,” he added.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a non-profit organization that tracks gun-related violence, the incident marks the 254th mass shooting in the U.S. this year.
