Eyewitness accounts paint a harrowing picture of the disaster. Fernandes de Freitas, a tire repair worker, described seeing one of the helicopters engulfed in flames immediately after the collision. In a chilling detail, de Freitas recounted witnessing a passenger attempting to escape from the second aircraft before it, too, crashed to the ground. “It was terrifying, absolutely horrifying,” de Freitas recounted, his voice still trembling from the shock.
