MANILA, Philippines – The country’s leading airline, Cebu Pacific, is hosting the launch of Women in Aviation International – Philippines (WAI-PH) in a move to foster gender equality in the aviation industry.

WAI-PH is the nation’s first organization dedicated to empowering women in the aviation sector.

The Philippine chapter is affiliated with Women in Aviation International (WAI), a global non-profit organization boasting over 20,000 members.

WAI provides crucial support through mentorship programs, scholarships, and valuable networking opportunities, all aimed at educating and empowering women across all facets of aviation.

The launch, sponsored by CEB Engineering and Fleet Management and the People Department, alongside the chapter’s founding officers, comes at a time when the Philippine aviation sector is undergoing rapid modernization, embracing digital transformation, and bridging existing workforce gaps.

“Cebu Pacific is proud to support this initiative that empowers women in aviation,” said Shevantha Weerasekera, CEB vice president for Engineering and Fleet Management.

“It aligns perfectly with our goal of fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace where everyone can take flight,” Shevantha added.

At the launch celebration, WAI-PH marked Girls in Aviation Day with a series of activities designed to ignite the passion of young Filipinas.

Participants enjoyed hands-on experiences, insightful career talks led by accomplished female pilots, engineers, mechanics, and cabin crew, aircraft tours, and informative resource kits provided by WAI-USA.

The initiative offers an invaluable glimpse into the dynamic world of aviation, encouraging women to explore potential careers in the aerospace sector.

Beyond its initial partnerships with CEB, Aplus, and Airlink Aviation College, WAI-PH plans to expand nationwide.

It aims to collaborate with other airlines, aviation schools, and maintenance organizations to broaden its mission.

Through mentorship programs, leadership development initiatives, and targeted outreach, CEB hopes to inspire a new generation of Filipinas to pursue careers in aviation, ultimately contributing to a more diverse industry.

WAI-PH is poised to become a driving force in shaping the future of Philippine aviation by unlocking the potential of women across the sector.
