QUEENSLAND, Australia – A devastating house fire in Emerald has claimed the lives of four people, sending shockwaves through the central Queensland community.

Emergency services were called to a duplex on Opal Street at approximately 6:48 AM (7:48 AM AEDT) Wednesday morning, arriving to find the structure engulfed in flames.

Following the containment of the blaze by four fire crews, authorities discovered four bodies inside the residence.

Initial reports indicate the deceased include a man and three children.

A crime scene has been established as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli addressed the media, expressing his condolences and acknowledging the profound impact of the tragedy.

“It is incredibly sad to see the loss of four lives in that tragic house fire, and how much that will affect the local community,” Crisafulli said.

“In smaller towns, these connections are deeply felt, and this loss will ripple through the community.”

He extended his sympathy to the families of the victims and the neighbors who witnessed the harrowing incident.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
