Imee Accuses BBM of Being a Drug Addict

MANILA, Philippines – In a stunning turn of events that threatens to destabilize the government, Senator Imee Marcos publicly accused her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., of being a long-standing drug addict in a fiery speech before an estimated 300,000 people at Monday’s “Rally for Transparency and a Better Democracy” in Rizal Park.

The senator’s allegations, made in Tagalog, painted a picture of a president battling addiction since childhood, a struggle allegedly known to the Marcos family for decades.

“Our entire family has been aware of his struggles since we were young,” she declared, hinting at previous concerns expressed by their late father about the President’s “habits and behavior.”

Marcos further claimed she and members of the Presidential Guard had been forced to dispose of drug paraphernalia following parties hosted by her brother.

She also expressed regret over encouraging his marriage to Liza Araneta, hoping it would steer him toward recovery.

“I was mistaken – things only deteriorated. His addiction intensified, even after they wed,” she said, suggesting similarities between the couple.

Accusations extended to the President’s tenure as governor of Ilocos Norte, with his alleged frequent absences and reports of marijuana use in the morning, followed by cocaine consumption with his wife and friends throughout the day.

Adding fuel to the fire, the senator asserted that the President’s name appeared on a “narco-list” during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration in 2016.

She claimed to have urged then-President Duterte to prioritize prosecuting drug dealers over users.

Betrayal, Broken Promises?

The senator further alleged that President Marcos vowed to overcome his addiction before launching his 2021 presidential campaign.

She claimed credit for introducing him to Vice President Sara Duterte, a partnership she now says she was later sidelined from.

“They claimed I wanted him disqualified so I could take his place – but that’s false! My only concern was for my brother and his ability to serve the country while facing these challenges,” she insisted as she questioned his fitness to lead amid the alleged addiction.

Palace Denounces Claims as ‘Desperate’

Malacañang vehemently denied the allegations, dismissing them as a “desperate tactic” by the senator against her own brother.

“Why would Senator Imee make such statements to undermine her brother? We all know a drug test was conducted prior to the President’s campaign,” stated Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, emphasizing the President’s previous negative drug test results.

INC Minister Joins Chorus of Criticism, Accuses President of Protecting Allies

Adding to the pressure, a minister from the influential Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) church, Rommel Topacio, publicly criticized the President at the same rally, accusing him of shielding political allies, including his cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and delaying investigations into questionable flood control projects.

Topacio expressed outrage over the lack of accountability for those implicated in the flood control scandal and criticized Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla for suggesting the law should be bent to appease public opinion.

He also highlighted perceived inconsistencies in the government’s cooperation with international entities, contrasting the swift action taken to execute an Interpol warrant for former President Rodrigo Duterte with the inaction on Zaldy Co, who faces corruption allegations in the Philippines.

Marcos Jr. Response:

Majority Leader Ferdinand A. Marcos released a statement, saying, “I have always acknowledged and respected the role my Tita, Senator Imee Marcos, played in the early part of my public life.”

“That respect remains, which is why this will be the first and last time I will be speaking on this.”

“It pains me to see how low she has gone to the point that she resorts to a web of lies aimed at destabilizing this government to advance her own political ambitions. To further repeat an accusation against President Bongbong Marcos and the First Lady (and for the first time ever myself) that is not only false but dangerously irresponsible.”

A Nation on Edge

The escalating feud within the Marcos family, coupled with the public condemnation from influential figures like the Iglesia Ni Cristo minister, has plunged the Philippines into a state of political turmoil.

The veracity of Senator Marcos’ allegations remains to be seen, but their potential impact on the Chief Executive’s leadership and the stability of his administration is undeniable.

If proven true, the accusations could trigger a constitutional crisis with far-reaching consequences for the Philippines in domestic and international affairs.
