Trump Abruptly Signs Epstein Document Release Bill Amid Bipartisan Pressure

WASHINGTON, DC – In a stunning reversal of decision, President Donald Trump has signed into law legislation mandating the public release of previously shielded documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The move followed months of resistance from the administration and mounting bipartisan pressure from Congress.

The legislation, passed overwhelmingly by both houses, compels the Justice Department to disclose all files and communications pertaining to Epstein, including details surrounding the investigation into his 2019 death in federal custody, within 30 days.

While redactions are permitted to protect victims’ identities and ongoing investigations, the DOJ is explicitly barred from withholding information based on “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.”

Trump’s initial reluctance to declassify the documents, despite having the unilateral power to do so, fueled speculation and criticism.

He previously dismissed the focus on Epstein as a Democratic distraction, stating on social media, “Democrats have used the ‘Epstein’ issue… to divert attention from our INCREDIBLE Victories.”

The bill’s passage represents a rare victory for a coalition of Democrats, Republican critics of Trump, and even some former supporters who championed transparency in the Epstein case.

The administration reportedly made a last-ditch effort to sway Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert, a supporter of the bill, inviting her to the Situation Room just days before the vote.

Facing the near certainty of a Congressional override, Trump characterized his decision as a strategic maneuver to refocus Republican attention on his administration’s achievements.

“I just don’t want Republicans to lose sight of all the victories we’ve achieved,” he stated.

The House passed the bill with a resounding 427-1 vote.

Only Rep. Clay Higgins dissented, citing concerns about the potential exposure of innocent individuals.

The Senate subsequently approved the measure unanimously.

The impending release of the Epstein files is poised to shed light on the disgraced financier’s connections to powerful figures, including Trump himself, who has acknowledged a past friendship with Epstein but denies any involvement in his criminal activities.

The documents are also expected to reignite long-standing conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s death and allegations of a government cover-up, promising to keep the controversial case in the public eye for the foreseeable future.
