SYDNEY, Australia – A shipment arriving in Sydney on November 19, 2025, ostensibly containing kaolin soft clay and towels, has been revealed to be a sophisticated attempt to import approximately 20 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $15 million. The discovery was made by vigilant officers from the Australian Border Force (ABF) during a routine examination of incoming cargo.

The illicit drugs were meticulously concealed within the kaolin clay and impregnated into the fibers of the towels, a method authorities believe was designed to evade detection. Kaolin clay, known for its mild properties and use in skincare, presented a deceptive facade for the illegal substance.

“This was a calculated attempt to exploit the perceived innocuousness of everyday items,” stated an AFP spokesperson. “The level of sophistication in the concealment demonstrates the lengths to which criminals will go to traffic these dangerous drugs into our community.”

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has seized the methamphetamine and launched a full investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attempted importation. Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individuals involved.

“We urge anyone with information regarding this shipment or any other illicit drug activity to come forward,” the AFP spokesperson said. “Even seemingly insignificant details can be crucial to our investigation.”

In a tongue-in-cheek statement, the AFP quipped, “While the perpetrators may have envisioned a relaxing ‘spa day’ with these materials, they are now facing the prospect of an extended stay at ‘Spa de Jail.'”

Anyone with information regarding the importation of illicit drugs is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or report online at https://crimestoppers.com.au/. Information can be provided anonymously.

The AFP is committed to disrupting and dismantling criminal networks involved in the importation and distribution of illicit drugs, protecting the Australian community from the devastating consequences of drug-related crime.
