MANILA, Philippines – A significant inter-agency operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has led to the discovery of an estimated ₱29.6 million worth of high-grade party drugs, primarily ecstasy and methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu). The substantial illicit consignment, originating from Germany and South Africa, was found within three abandoned parcels at a NAIA warehouse on March 2, 2026, marking a notable success in the government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign.

The meticulous investigation, spearheaded by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in collaboration with other government drug operatives, began when the suspicious parcels were flagged during routine X-ray security screening. Anomalous images prompted BOC personnel to initiate a thorough inspection, leading to the crucial discovery.

Confirming the initial suspicions, samples of the seized substances were promptly handed over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for chemical analysis. Laboratory tests unequivocally confirmed the presence of illegal drugs, identifying two primary categories:

Ecstasy (MDMA):

  • A total of 4,046 grams of suspected ecstasy, with an estimated street value of ₱5.2 million.

Methamphetamine Hydrochloride (Shabu):

  • A substantial 3,596 grams of suspected shabu, valued at an estimated ₱24.4 million.

The combined street value of the confiscated narcotics reaches a staggering ₱29.6 million.

Officials from the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP), who provided critical support during the operation, highlighted the significance of the seizure in disrupting the supply chain of illegal drugs into the country. The discovery of the abandoned nature of the parcels suggests a potential attempt by syndicates to circumvent direct apprehension, underscoring the sophisticated tactics employed by drug traffickers.

The illegal drugs have since been formally turned over to the PDEA for proper inventory, safekeeping, and eventual destruction in accordance with established legal protocols. Authorities continue to investigate the origins and intended recipients of the illicit shipment, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this major attempt to smuggle narcotics into the Philippines. This successful interdiction serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance and collaborative efforts required to combat the persistent threat of illegal drug trafficking.
