MANILA, Philippines – Palawan is transforming its annual Baragatan Festival into a premier tourism showcase. Leveraging its rich culture, diverse music, and spectacular events, it aims to attract a broader domestic and international audience. Spanning nearly three weeks from June 5 to 23, Baragatan 2026 is set to be one of its largest, unifying all 23 municipalities and Puerto Princesa City in a province-wide celebration of dance, cuisine, music, heritage, and local industries.

While the festival unveiled refreshed branding earlier this month, its ambition extends beyond a visual update. Tourism officials position Baragatan as a flagship cultural event designed to encourage extended tourist stays and boost visitor numbers during the traditionally quieter mid-year travel season.

This timing aligns with Palawan’s booming tourism sector. In 2025, the province generated an estimated PhP 65.51 billion in tourism receipts, welcoming approximately 2.1 million visitors. Foreign tourists contributed over PhP 35 billion. Baragatan aims to sustain this momentum by offering compelling cultural experiences that complement Palawan’s renowned beaches and island-hopping destinations.

Governor Amy Roa Alvarez emphasizes maximizing this year’s festival through enhanced private sector partnerships and expanded programming to garner national attention. The core theme, “Makukulay na Yaman, Iisang Palawan” (Colorful Treasures, One Palawan), celebrates the province’s cultural diversity and shared identity.

Festival Highlights and Immersion

The grand opening on June 12 promises a vibrant spectacle with the Parada ng mga Palaweño and the highly anticipated Saraotan sa Dalan cultural performances. Long considered Baragatan’s centerpiece, Saraotan sa Dalan is a street-dancing extravaganza featuring traditional-inspired performances from participating municipalities. Contingents display colorful costumes, indigenous influences, local music, and choreographed dances reflecting community history and identity. Thousands of spectators traditionally line Puerto Princesa’s major roads to witness this defining Baragatan event.

The June 12 festivities also include the Baragatan Float Competition, the Festival Queen Competition, a fireworks display, and a major concert featuring the SexBomb Girls.

The festival experience extends beyond a single weekend. The three-week celebration features nightly concerts, food fairs, tourism exhibits, sports competitions, cultural programs, and local trade showcases across various venues in Puerto Princesa City. Trade fairs and food markets, alongside farmers’ markets and local product exhibitions promoting Palaweño businesses and cuisine, open as early as June 5 at the Provincial Government Complex.

Music plays a pivotal role, with performances by Side A, South Border, Sweetnotes, Arthur Nery, Flow G, and Parokya ni Edgar. Celebrity couple Coco Martin and Julia Montes, alongside the “Batang Quiapo” cast, are expected to headline the June 20 Kapamilya Night. The June 22 Baragatan Music Fest, featuring Arthur Nery and Flow G followed by a street party, is also projected to draw significant crowds. The festival culminates on June 23 with another Saraotan sa Dalan parade, performances, fireworks, and a closing concert by Parokya ni Edgar.

To accommodate the anticipated surge, several headline events will be held at the Puerto Princesa City Sports Complex for the first time, ensuring safe hosting for larger audiences.

Beyond entertainment, Baragatan aims to showcase Palawan’s cultural identity. “Baragatan,” a Cuyunon term meaning “to gather” or “meeting point,” is reflected in the newly launched festival logo, which incorporates symbols of Palawan: the Katala bird, pearls, ocean waves, leaves, jars, and human figures representing its diverse communities.

For tourism stakeholders, the expanded Baragatan Festival is more than a celebration. It strategically strengthens Palawan’s reputation as a multifaceted destination, offering unparalleled beaches and nature tourism alongside unique cultural experiences found exclusively within the province.
