MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado has been recognized as one of the nation’s top government officials, earning a leading position in the latest “Boses ng Bayan” Index of Governance Trust and Performance Ratings by the RP Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD). This accolade underscores his impactful leadership and dedication to institutional reform.

The May 29 results position Commissioner Viado fourth nationwide, with an impressive 85 percent performance and trust rating. RPMD, a respected organization known for its public opinion polls and governance surveys, validates this achievement.

Leading the list are Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla (89.7%), National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag (88.1%), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez (86.5%).

Commissioner Viado accepted the recognition with gratitude, attributing it to the dedication of the entire Bureau of Immigration. “This is not a personal achievement but a testament to the collective efforts of our immigration officers and personnel, tirelessly serving the Filipino people and safeguarding our borders,” Viado affirmed.

He credited the Bureau’s advancements to the leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. and his “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda. “We draw inspiration from President Marcos’ call for a Bagong Pilipinas. At the Bureau of Immigration, we are translating that vision into a ‘Bagong Immigration’ – a professional, modern, transparent, and responsive agency serving the public’s evolving needs,” he stated.

Since assuming leadership, Commissioner Viado has spearheaded critical reforms, strengthening border security, enhancing immigration services, intensifying enforcement against illicit foreign activities, combating human trafficking, and accelerating the agency’s digital transformation.

He pledged to amplify these efforts, pursuing further reforms to ensure the Bureau aligns with the administration’s goals of efficient governance and superior public service delivery.

“While honored by this recognition, we view it as a call to elevate our performance further. Much impactful work lies ahead, and we remain committed to implementing meaningful reforms that fortify public trust, elevate services, and contribute to realizing a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ through a ‘Bagong Immigration’,” Viado concluded.
