BI Dismantles Online Scam Hub, Arrests Five Foreign Nationals

PARAÑAQUE CITY, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has dismantled a suspected online scam operation in Parañaque City, apprehending five foreign nationals.

The predawn raid on June 17 targeted a condominium complex in Sapphire Seaview Park, following precise intelligence reports identifying the location as a center for sophisticated “love scam” and cryptocurrency fraud schemes. These operations reportedly victimized individuals through elaborate online deception.

The arrested individuals include Tang Shun (Chinese), Chia Kong Loon (Malaysian), and Kum Htoi, Myo Oo, and Kyaw Tint Lwin (Burmese). They were taken into custody after immigration verification revealed clear violations of Philippine immigration laws.

Initial intelligence indicated that the premises were not only a hub for fraudulent online activities but also restricted the free movement of some workers, prompting a deeper investigation. During the operation, a foreign national on-site corroborated information suggesting multiple condominium units were engaged in unlawful work-related enterprises, leading to the arrests.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the bureau’s commitment: “Foreign nationals who exploit their stay in the Philippines for fraudulent schemes and other criminal activities will face the full consequences of our immigration laws. We will pursue those who abuse our hospitality and collaborate closely with law enforcement partners to dismantle these operations.”

The apprehended individuals are currently undergoing processing and documentation at the BI main office before being transferred to the BI’s holding facility, pending deportation and other immigration proceedings. This swift action underscores the government’s stance against foreign nationals engaged in illicit activities on Philippine soil.
