MANILA, Philippines – In a powerful display of diplomatic resolve, Ambassador Mounir Anastas, the State of Palestine’s envoy to the Philippines, undertook a critical working visit to General Luna, Siargao Island, on May 29, 2026. Beyond fostering cultural, tourism, and development ties with local officials, Ambassador Anastas’s visit centered on a grave matter: a targeted assault on a German national and his Filipino wife—owners of the “Cartoon Café”—who were reportedly attacked for publicly expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

The Ambassador engaged directly with General Luna’s Mayor, Vice Mayor, Municipal Councilors, and the Chief of Police. Central to these discussions was the disturbing incident where, according to video evidence, Israeli nationals allegedly assaulted the café owners after they displayed the Palestinian flag and voiced support for Palestine.

The Embassy of the State of Palestine has spearheaded a coordinated effort with Philippine authorities. This engagement, including with senior police officials, led to the identification of the perpetrators and the initiation of legal proceedings. Ambassador Anastas underscored the imperative of securing appropriate compensation for the victims and upholding the fundamental right to freedom of expression, condemning any act of violence or incitement.

During his visit, Ambassador Anastas personally went to the Cartoon Café. He met with the victims and local activists, offering unwavering solidarity and reaffirming the Embassy’s commitment to ensuring justice is not merely sought but achieved.

The Embassy of the State of Palestine vows to maintain oversight of this case with the competent authorities. Their objective is to hold those responsible for this assault accountable, reinforce the principles of free expression, and ensure that acts of violence against those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people will not escape justice.

السفير الفلسطيني يواجه اعتداءً مستهدفًا ضد مؤيدين في سيارغاو ويطالب بالعدالة

سيارغاو، الفلبين – في إظهار قوي للعزيمة الدبلوماسية، قام السفير منير أنسطاس، سفير دولة فلسطين لدى الفلبين، بزيارة عمل حاسمة إلى بلدية جنرال لونا في جزيرة سيارغاو بتاريخ 29 مايو 2026. وبعيداً عن تعزيز الروابط الثقافية والسياحية والتنموية مع المسؤولين المحليين، تمحورت زيارة السفير حول قضية خطيرة: اعتداء مستهدف على مواطن ألماني وزوجته الفلبينية – مالكي “مقهى كارتون” – اللذين تعرضا للهجوم بزعم التعبير العلني عن تضامنهما مع القضية الفلسطينية.

التقى السفير مباشرة برئيس بلدية جنرال لونا ونائبه وأعضاء المجلس البلدي ورئيس الشرطة. وكان في صميم هذه المناقشات الحادث المثير للقلق حيث، وفقًا لأدلة الفيديو، يُزعم أن مواطنين إسرائيليين اعتدوا على مالكي المقهى بعد أن رفعا العلم الفلسطيني وأعربا عن دعمهما لفلسطين.
