DOHA, Qatar & GAZA CITY – Recent actions by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including a contentious military strike against a Hamas delegation in Doha and an escalated offensive in Gaza City, are drawing widespread international criticism and prompting serious concerns about the stability of the US-Israel alliance.

The strike in Doha has particularly stirred intense discussions.

Alon Pinkas, a former Israeli consul general in New York, indicated that Netanyahu might be “pushing” the boundaries of his rapport with US President Donald Trump.

“Netanyahu’s assumption that he can operate without consequences due to Trump’s personal support may soon be put to the test… and the results could be detrimental,” Pinkas noted.

He speculated that the attack might have been strategically timed to disrupt ongoing negotiations regarding Gaza.

Pointing out the precarious position of the US, he said: “If the US was aware of the strike and allowed it, they risk appearing complicit. If they were caught off guard, it raises significant questions about their influence over a vital ally like Israel.”

He highlighted the possibility of US intervention.

“Should the US president become sufficiently outraged… he has the authority to bring this conflict to a halt with just one call,” Pinkas said.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly.

Despite widespread international backlash against the strike in Doha, Israel has intensified its military operations in Gaza City.

On Wednesday (Sept. 10, 2025), the Israeli military reported targeting the 13-story Al Taybeh tower, claiming it was used by Hamas.

Social media captured the tower’s destruction in a massive explosion, creating a large plume of smoke over the city.

The exact number of casualties from the strike remains unverified.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported at least 41 deaths in Gaza over the last 24 hours.

Compounding the crisis, a severe starvation situation is affecting much of Gaza, worsened by the ongoing Israeli blockade.

A United Nations-supported report confirmed last month that parts of Gaza, including Gaza City, were experiencing a “man-made” famine.

The Gaza health ministry noted five more deaths on Tuesday due to starvation and malnutrition, including a child.

These events are heightening regional tensions and increasing scrutiny of Israel’s actions and the US’s involvement in the conflict.

While the long-term effects of Netanyahu’s policies remain unclear, the immediate fallout includes a worsening humanitarian disaster in Gaza and a potential rift in Israel’s most critical international alliance.
