Cebu City, Philippines – Philippine Airlines (PAL) has inaugurated a new four-times-weekly service between Cebu and Calbayog, a strategic move to bolster its domestic network and enhance travel connectivity for passengers.

The inaugural flight, PR 2668, received a celebratory water cannon salute upon departure from Mactan-Cebu International Airport on Oct. 26, marking a significant milestone for the airline and the region.

The launch was commemorated with a cake-slicing ceremony attended by key figures from PAL, Aboitiz InfraCapital, GMCAC, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), the Department of Tourism (DOT), and various travel industry stakeholders.

Upon arrival at Calbayog Airport, flight PR 2669 was greeted with a ceremonial lei-giving and a vibrant cultural dance, with representatives from PAL, DOT Region 8, and the local government of Calbayog present to welcome the new service.

“This new route between Cebu and Calbayog is a significant boost for both leisure and business travel,” stated Rabbi Vincent Ang, PAL Express President.

“It will stimulate economic activity and strengthen Cebu’s position as a crucial gateway to various destinations within the Philippines and beyond.”

The Cebu-Calbayog route provides travelers with convenient access to Manila and seamless connections through Cebu to other domestic destinations within the PAL network, including popular locations like Bacolod, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Siargao, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro. Passengers can also leverage PAL’s Cebu and Manila hubs for international connections.

Calbayog, known as the “City of Waterfalls,” is a vibrant destination celebrated for its natural beauty, educational institutions, religious significance, and status as a key port of call for interisland vessels.

The city boasts numerous waterfalls, a lively festival culture, and thriving local industries such as mat-making and fishing.

PAL lauded the collaborative efforts of its aviation industry partners, including the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, Aboitiz Infra Capital, and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, for their vital role in supporting the airline’s expansion and continued success in Cebu.

The route is serviced by PAL’s 86-seater De Havilland Dash 8-400 Next Generation aircraft, ensuring a comfortable travel experience complemented by the airline’s renowned Filipino hospitality.
