BANGKOK, Thailand – Anne Jakrajutatip, former CEO of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), is facing an arrest warrant issued by a Thai court after failing to appear for a verdict hearing in a fraud case involving 30 million Thai baht (approximately P54.7 million).

According to a report by Thai media outlet Khaosod English, the South Bangkok Criminal Court deemed Jakrajutatip’s absence, without explanation, as an attempt to evade justice.

The court ordered her arrest and the full forfeiture of her bail.

The verdict hearing has been rescheduled for Dec. 26.

The case was filed by Dr. Raweewat Maschamadol against JKN Global Group Public Company Ltd, Jakrajutatip’s company, and Jakrajutatip herself, alleging “joint fraud through false representation and concealment of facts.”

The plaintiff claims to have invested 30 million baht in JKN Global Group corporate bonds, based on assurances of repayment that the company allegedly knew it could not fulfill, according to The Nation Thailand.

Adding to the complexity, allegations have surfaced that Jakrajutatip has relocated to Mexico.

Political activist Sondhi Limthongkul accused her of fleeing to avoid the rehabilitation plan of JKN Global Group and other legal obligations, according to the South China Morning Post.

Khaosod English further reported rumors that Jakrajutatip had converted 6 billion baht ($186 million) into cryptocurrency. JKN Global Group issued a statement on November 24 denying these rumors, attributing delayed debt payments to economic slowdown and cash flow discrepancies rather than fraud. The company stated that investigations by government agencies are ongoing and that no wrongdoing has been established, affirming its commitment to transparent operations and cooperation with all parties.

Jakrajutatip stepped down as CEO of Miss Universe on June 20, following a reorganization of board members at JKN Global Group. Earlier in the year, the Miss Universe Organization distanced itself from Jakrajutatip’s mounting legal issues.

Jakrajutatip, a transgender businesswoman, made history in 2023 when she acquired the Miss Universe Organization.

The current legal challenges come amid other controversies surrounding the MUO.
