MANILA, Philippines – Passengers are praising the skill and composure of an AirAsia pilot who safely navigated Flight Z2 343 through treacherous weather conditions caused by Tropical Depression Verbena, executing a flawless go-around and subsequent landing in Roxas City on Tuesday.

The flight, originating from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 at 7:57 a.m. on Nov. 25, faced intense turbulence during its initial approach to Roxas Airport.

Online videos captured the severity of the conditions.

“Our pilots made a swift, safety-driven decision to abort the initial landing and temporarily reroute back to Manila, allowing time for the weather to improve,” stated First Officer Steve Dailisan, head of Communications and Public Affairs for AirAsia.

Displaying exemplary airmanship, the pilots initiated a go-around—a standard safety procedure meticulously drilled and designed to prioritize passenger safety during challenging landings.

The flight ultimately returned to Roxas and touched down safely at 11:40 a.m. the same day.

“A go-around is a routine safety maneuver, and we commend our Allstar pilots for their decisive action and unwavering confidence in this situation,” Dailisan said.

The incident highlights AirAsia’s steadfast dedication to safety protocols.

“At AirAsia, the safety and welfare of our crew and passengers are paramount,” Dailisan emphasized.

The successful management of Flight Z2 343 serves as a powerful demonstration of the rigorous training and exceptional professionalism of AirAsia’s flight personnel.
