MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines experienced a significant surge in international travel in 2025, with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) processing a total of 15.6 million passenger arrivals nationwide. This figure, encompassing both returning Filipino citizens and foreign visitors, underscores the continued vitality of the country’s tourism sector.

According to data released by the BI, a total of 15,608,868 arrivals were recorded at all international ports of entry between January and December 2025. Of this number, 6,704,007 were foreign nationals, highlighting the Philippines’ growing appeal as a destination for leisure and business travelers.

The 2025 arrival figures represent a noteworthy increase of nearly six percent compared to the 14,733,597 arrivals registered in 2024. This growth trajectory signals a positive trend for the Philippine economy, which heavily relies on the tourism industry for revenue generation and job creation.

In response to the burgeoning influx of travelers, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the bureau’s commitment to supporting the government’s broader economic objectives through ongoing modernization efforts.

“We are aggressively modernizing our immigration processes—expanding automated systems, upgrading facilities, and strengthening our manpower—to ensure faster, more secure, and more convenient immigration services for travelers,” Viado stated. “These reforms are essential to facilitating legitimate travel for tourists and other travelers.”

The BI’s modernization initiatives aim to streamline immigration procedures, reduce processing times, and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors. This includes expanding the use of automated passport control systems, upgrading airport infrastructure, and providing enhanced training for immigration personnel.

Commissioner Viado further emphasized that the BI will continue to align its programs with the national government’s push for digitalization and efficient public service delivery. This commitment includes leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency, enhance security measures, and combat transnational crimes and travel-related abuses.

The sustained growth in tourist arrivals, as evidenced by the BI’s latest figures, underscores the Philippines’ potential as a leading tourism destination in Southeast Asia. By prioritizing modernization, enhancing security, and promoting efficient public service delivery, the BI aims to further facilitate international travel and contribute to the continued growth of the Philippine economy.
