PASAY CITY – The Philippine skies are set for a significant leap in safety and efficiency following the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)’s landmark launch of its new Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) System Project.

This ambitious initiative, powered by a state-of-the-art Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) system from Spanish technology giant Indra Group, marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s journey toward a fully digitalized air navigation infrastructure.

The transformative procurement, solidified at a high-profile signing ceremony on Monday, April 14, at the CAAP Central Office in Pasay City, saw CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario and Indra Philippines Inc. CEO Diego Castillejo ink the agreement. The event, attended by Sylvia Torices, the Economic and Trade Counselor of the Spanish Embassy in the Philippines, underscored the growing strategic partnership and technical exchange between Spain and the Philippines in delivering advanced technological solutions critical for national development.

A New Era of Aeronautical Information

This initiative represents a monumental stride in CAAP’s transition to a fully integrated, digital AIM system. Its core objective is to deliver unprecedented levels of reliability, accuracy, and timeliness in aeronautical information, directly translating to safer and more efficient air navigation across the Philippine Flight Information Region.

“This is a major shift toward aeronautical information management, in compliance with ICAO Annex 15 standards and international best practices,” declared Lt. Gen. Del Rosario. “This project unequivocally demonstrates CAAP’s unwavering commitment to innovation, safety, efficiency, and service excellence for the Filipino people and the global aviation community.”

Unpacking the Technological Leap

The newly acquired system boasts a comprehensive suite of advanced capabilities designed to meet the rigorous demands of modern air traffic management. Key features include:

Centralized AIXM (Aeronautical Information Exchange Model) Compliant Database

A unified, standardized, and easily accessible repository for all aeronautical data, ensuring consistency and accuracy.

Electronic AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication)

Digital access to critical operational information, replacing cumbersome paper-based systems and facilitating real-time updates.

Digital NOTAM (Notice to Airmen)

Instantaneous dissemination of vital operational information to pilots and air traffic controllers, significantly enhancing situational awareness.

Advanced Charting Capabilities

Production of precise and up-to-date digital aeronautical charts, crucial for flight planning and navigation.

Streamlined Flight Plan Management

Enhanced tools for efficient processing and management of flight plans, optimizing air traffic flow.

The implementation will leverage Indra Group’s industry-leading AviSuite AIS and Wizard Portal AIM solutions, renowned for their robust architecture and ability to support complex aviation data management needs.

A Partnership for Sustained Modernization

Indra Philippines Inc. CEO Diego Castillejo expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are honored to support the CAAP in advancing these critical systems. We sincerely hope this marks the beginning of a long-lasting and meaningful partnership. We look forward to continued collaboration between CAAP and Spain in navigating the years ahead toward sustained modernization.”

CAAP emphasized that this initiative is not merely a technological upgrade but a strategic investment in the nation’s aviation future. It directly addresses the imperative to ensure the Philippines remains fully equipped to handle future air traffic demands and to seamlessly integrate evolving aviation technologies. This modernization drive aligns with the visionary directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the strategic priorities set by Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, solidifying the nation’s commitment to a world-class aviation sector.

The successful deployment of this new AIS system will undoubtedly elevate the Philippines’ standing in global aviation, bolstering safety, fostering efficiency, and paving the way for a more robust and responsive air transportation network for decades to come.
