MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG) has formally recommended filing charges against former Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball team head coach Tab Baldwin and ten other individuals.

The charges stem from alleged violations of Republic Act No. 11053, known as the Anti-Hazing Act.

The recommendation is connected to the tragic drowning deaths of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a training activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8, 2026.

“The PNP CIDG recommends the evaluation, case build-up, and preliminary assessment by the Department of Justice for violations of RA 11053, the Anti-Hazing Act, against respondents who planned and participated in the hazing,” Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated during a press briefing in Quezon City.

This development marks a significant turn in the investigation surrounding the incident that led to the untimely demise of the two athletes.

The focus now shifts to the Department of Justice for further action and the commencement of preliminary investigations into the recommended charges.
