BI Arrests Overstaying U.S. National in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) apprehended an overstaying U.S. national in Cabuyao, Laguna, in a decisive operation that underscores the government’s commitment to robust border control and strict enforcement of Philippine immigration laws. This action aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to fortify national security and regulatory compliance.

Acting on credible intelligence, BI Intelligence Division personnel, supported by operatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), executed a mission order issued by Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.

The subject, identified as a 27-year-old female U.S. citizen named “Kristy,” was apprehended on the morning of July 30 in Cabuyao, Laguna.

Investigations confirmed that Kristy’s last approved immigration extension expired in January of this year. Bureau records indicate no subsequent application or payment for an extended stay, rendering her presence in the Philippines unauthorized.

Consequently, she faces charges for violating the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended, which mandates the deportation of foreign nationals who exceed their authorized period of stay.

The BI will file formal deportation charges against Kristy at its main office in Manila. Pending the resolution of her case, she will be transferred to the Bureau’s Warden Facility in Bicutan, Taguig City, for custody.

Commissioner Viado emphasized the Bureau’s unwavering commitment to upholding Philippine immigration laws. “We will continue intelligence-driven operations against foreign nationals who violate our immigration laws,” Viado stated. “We urge all foreign visitors to observe and respect Philippine laws to avoid facing arrest, detention, and deportation.”

This apprehension serves as a reminder of the Philippines’ proactive stance against immigration law violations, ensuring accountability and maintaining the integrity of its national borders.
