MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has successfully deported four Japanese nationals wanted for sophisticated fraud schemes, handing them over to Japanese authorities following their repatriation on Tuesday, September 29. The operation underscores the Philippines’ commitment to combating transnational crime and aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to intensify law enforcement against foreign criminal networks.

The fugitives were escorted by personnel from the Japan National Police Agency (JNPA) aboard a Japan Airlines flight from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

Key Fugitives and Allegations

Takumi OI, 31, and Sho OKADA, 27: Arrested on April 28, 2026, these individuals were subjects of warrants from Japan’s Kokura Summary Court for alleged fraud under the Japanese Penal Code. They are implicated in a scheme where they reportedly impersonated law enforcement officers to facilitate financial deception. Both had overstayed their authorized period in the Philippines.

Yuki SUGITA, 39, and Yuta TAKAHASHI, 45: Also subjects of outstanding warrants from Japan’s Omiya Summary Court for alleged fraud, these two had similarly overstayed their legal presence in the Philippines.

All four individuals were subject to separate summary deportation orders issued by the BI.

Commissioner Issues Strong Warning

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado issued a stern warning, affirming that the Philippines will not serve as a sanctuary for foreign criminals. “The Bureau of Immigration will not allow the Philippines to become a refuge for foreign fugitives or individuals involved in illegal activities,” Viado stated. “We will continue to strengthen coordination with our international law enforcement counterparts to ensure that those wanted for serious offenses are properly identified and dealt with in accordance with Philippine immigration laws.”

The BI reiterated its commitment to enhanced information-sharing and collaborative law enforcement efforts with international partners, emphasizing border security, immigration law enforcement, and adherence to due process in all actions.
