Hero Pilot Smit Machchhar Thwarts Mid-Air Catastrophe on Flydubai Flight, Hailed for Extraordinary Bravery

TABUK, SAUDI ARABIA — Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national, is being celebrated for his extraordinary courage that prevented a catastrophic crash aboard flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Stabbed and seriously injured by the co-pilot, Machchhar fought back, unlocked the cockpit door, and enabled crew and passengers to storm the flight deck — stopping an apparent sabotage attempt as the plane plunged toward the ground.

The Heroism That Saved 174 Lives

The co-pilot — identified as an Omani national — allegedly attacked Machchhar in the cockpit and attempted to seize control to crash the aircraft. Flight data shows the plane plummeted nearly 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds, entering a dangerous dive before the emergency signal was transmitted.

Despite severe injuries, Machchhar resisted, unlocked the cockpit door, and allowed crew and passengers — including Israeli travelers and Emirati staff — to intervene and overpower the attacker. All 174 people aboard survived.

“Indian, Israeli, Emirati — different nationalities, one act of courage,” one passenger posted. “This man is a hero.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Machchhar “a true hero who demonstrated extraordinary bravery and saved every life on board.” Machchhar remains in stable condition at a hospital in Tabuk; the Indian Embassy is providing full support to him and his family.

The co-pilot is in Saudi custody facing interrogation. flydubai urges caution regarding the motive — the cause remains under investigation. Netanyahu has ordered heightened aviation security nationwide.

Netanyahu Praises – While World Labels Him War Criminal

Even as Netanyahu hailed the captain’s heroism, global condemnation surrounds the Israeli leader himself. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated plainly:

“Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal — an architect of genocide against the Palestinian people. If the International Criminal Court deems someone worthy of arrest, who are we to place anyone above the law? Everyone must be held accountable.”

Mamdani’s words echo a growing global chorus: Netanyahu stands accused of overseeing mass atrocities in Gaza — deaths in the thousands, hospitals and schools targeted, ceasefire commitments broken — while he praises courage in the skies, his own actions on the ground face mounting international condemnation and demands for ICC arrest.

Two Realities – One Moment

The same leader who thanks a brave pilot for saving lives is himself widely accused of destroying them. The flight deck incident united people of three nations in a fight for survival; the broader conflict continues to divide the world between those who demand justice and those who enable impunity.
