ICC Arrest Warrant Fuels Chaos: Dela Rosa Injured Amid NBI Grapple

MANILA, Philippines – A maelstrom of unconfirmed reports, a dramatic public display, and an alleged physical altercation have engulfed Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, intensifying scrutiny surrounding a purported International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant.

The unfolding drama reached a fever pitch today, marked by Dela Rosa’s claimed injury and the chaotic presence of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) personnel at the Senate.

The controversy erupted when former Marine mutineer and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV brandished documents he asserted constituted an ICC arrest warrant for Dela Rosa. This high-stakes spectacle not only escalated pre-existing tensions but also coincided with Dela Rosa’s earlier claim of a physical altercation that left him with an injury to his left hand.

Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano initially confirmed the presence of NBI operatives, reported by the Sergeant-at-Arms, who were purportedly on the premises to serve an arrest warrant. However, Cayetano swiftly clarified that, based on information received, the NBI personnel did not possess an actual arrest warrant at the time of their unauthorized presence. This crucial detail cast doubt on the legitimacy of the NBI’s actions.

Adding another layer to the unfolding saga, Dela Rosa reportedly sustained an injury to his left hand. While official details remain largely unconfirmed, sources close to the rapidly developing situation suggest the injury occurred during an alleged grappling incident with NBI agents.

This purported confrontation, juxtaposed with the NBI’s uncoordinated presence and Trillanes’s provocative display, has ignited a firestorm of speculation, demanding an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation into the events.

Trillanes’s act of publicly displaying the alleged warrant injects a new level of urgency and intense public scrutiny into the long-standing speculation surrounding Dela Rosa. As a central figure in the Duterte administration’s controversial anti-drug campaign, which has drawn considerable international criticism, Dela Rosa has been under the ICC’s spotlight for some time.

This latest development gains further traction from a previous claim in November 2025 by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, who also asserted he had seen an ICC arrest warrant against Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa’s return to the Senate on Monday, his first appearance since the Ombudsman’s earlier assertion, heightened the palpable tension within the legislative body and underscored the gravity of these ongoing allegations and the rapidly escalating situation.

NBI Operations Uncoordinated, Absence of Warrant Raises Grave Questions

Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano further revealed a critical lapse in protocol: the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) failed to coordinate with the Senate prior to their unauthorized presence on the premises this Monday, May 11.

According to the initial report from the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, the NBI personnel indicated their intention to apprehend Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa. Crucially, the report explicitly states that the NBI operatives did not possess an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant of arrest.

This blatant lack of coordination, the absence of a legitimate warrant, and the alleged confrontation culminating in Dela Rosa’s injury raise profound questions regarding the legality and operational protocols of the NBI’s actions and intentions.

This incident demands an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation to ascertain the full facts, ensure accountability, and prevent any further erosion of public trust in law enforcement agencies.
