Australian Man Arrested in Thailand for Teen’s Murder: A Chilling Tale of Deception

BRISBANE, Australia – A shocking murder investigation has culminated in the arrest of Australian national Simon Peter Carman, 45, at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Carman is accused of the brutal murder of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla, whose body was tragically concealed in a suitcase. The heinous crime and Carman’s alleged attempts to maintain a façade of normalcy have sent ripples of horror through Thailand and Australia.

Carman, who had been residing in Thailand for eight months after moving from Western Australia, was apprehended as he prepared to board a flight to his home country. His arrest followed a missing person report filed by a friend of Ms. Donhomla, known affectionately as “Cake.” Police quickly located the teenager’s naked body in a black suitcase discarded in waist-high grass alongside a railway line, just a ten-minute drive from Carman’s Jomtien apartment complex.

Pattaya City police allege Carman picked up Ms. Donhomla from the city’s infamous Beach Road early Thursday morning. Disturbing CCTV footage captures the pair, seemingly hand-in-hand, entering the apartment building’s lobby at 3:34 AM before ascending in an elevator. This grim video provides the last known images of Ms. Donhomla alive. Her friend later informed authorities that contact ceased shortly after Ms. Donhomla texted, “I’m already in his room; his room is very messy.”

Investigators reveal a disturbing narrative: Carman told police he had not known Ms. Donhomla prior to their encounter in Pattaya. Upon returning to his room, an argument allegedly erupted, reportedly over money. While an initial payment of 1,000 baht ($43 AUD) was agreed upon, Carman reportedly offered only 500 baht, leading to the fatal dispute. Police state Carman claimed Ms. Donhomla threatened him with a knife during the altercation. Officers noted “fingernail scratches” on Carman’s body upon his arrest, consistent with a struggle.

“He confessed that he killed her after they had an argument,” stated Police Colonel Anek Srathongyoo. Carman reportedly admitted to squeezing her neck until she lost consciousness, then keeping her body in the bathroom until later that night.

What followed is perhaps most chilling: “After the incident, he just lived his normal life,” Colonel Srathongyoo detailed. “Going out from the condo, getting his clothes washed, chatting with people nearby, with no clue that he had done something bad.”

However, surveillance footage shattered this veneer of normalcy. At approximately 9:25 PM that same day, Carman was captured dragging a large suitcase from his room, then departing on a motorcycle with the suitcase secured to the back. He was seen speeding along railway tracks, disappearing for nine crucial minutes before returning to his accommodation around 10:00 PM.

Carman faces a formidable list of charges: murder, concealment of a body, moving or destroying a body, and taking a minor aged between 15 and 18 for sexual purposes. Despite his alleged confession, Lieutenant Colonel Kanoknun Sooksri, the lead investigator, confirms Carman has denied all charges. If convicted, he faces a sentence ranging from 15 to 20 years in jail, life imprisonment, or the death penalty under Thai law.

The Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, has described the incident as “horrific,” extending “deepest sympathies to the family and friends who have lost someone they love dearly.”

Carman’s background reveals a man who grew up in Jerramungup, Western Australia, before moving to Albany. A former truck driver, he sustained a neck injury in a motor incident, with sources close to him suggesting medication for this injury may have affected his speech and movement. Court records indicate his firearms license was suspended and weapons seized by police in 2023. Carman was last seen in Western Australia in October 2025. His online activity prior to his arrest included comments on photos and videos of women, with one post from October 2025 stating he was living in Thailand. He is currently held in Pattaya Prison.

In a video recorded after his arrest, Carman addressed the victim’s family, expressing regret for “what happened to your daughter.”

Ms. Donhomla was an only child who lived with her father and stepmother in Kalasin province, some 480 kilometers northeast of Pattaya. She had traveled to Pattaya on June 16, telling her parents she intended to go on holiday with a friend. Her grief-stricken father, Thongchai Donholma, retrieved his daughter’s body from Pattaya and has returned to Kalasin. “I am deeply saddened,” he shared, his eyes swollen with grief.

This case casts a dark shadow, highlighting the vulnerabilities of young individuals and the chilling potential for premeditated deception. As the investigation continues, the world watches, awaiting justice for Tunchanok Donhomla.
