PASAY CITY, Philippines – The apprehension of a suspicious individual on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 has ignited fresh concerns about the effectiveness of security protocols under the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) management.

The individual’s entry into a restricted area has exposed a security risk in access control, leaving travelers questioning safety at the nation’s primary airport.

The 24-year-old man, who was not immediately identified pending investigation, aroused suspicion among passengers in the pre-departure zone.

Witnesses reported him exhibiting suspicious behavior, such as staring at and following travelers at the airport.

The man’s inability to produce valid identification or state a legitimate reason for being in the secured area prompted security personnel at the airport to apprehend him.

The PNP Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP), in coordination with private security personnel from Lockheed Security Agency and Quickstar Security Agency, placed the man under citizen’s arrest.

He now faces trespassing and alarm and scandal charges.

The suspect is now in the custody of NAIA Police Station 3.

While authorities commend the rapid response of security personnel, the incident raises a question about how a non-passenger gained access to a restricted area without being intercepted by security personnel.

“That constitutes a serious security breach. What if that individual is a terrorist with the intent to cause harm and significant damage?” a retired military personnel noted.

Police AVSEGROUP director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy commended the swift action and the coordination between aviation security personnel and AVSEGROUP members.

However, the praise did not sit well with airport insiders.

An insider revealed the presence of “salisi gang” members operating undetected within NAIA terminals, preying on unsuspecting passengers.

Security analysts are calling for a comprehensive review of NAIA’s security protocols, with a focus on strengthening access control measures.

As of press time, the NNIC has yet to issue a statement on the incident.
