JERUSALEM – United States President Donald Trump arrived in Israel on Monday (October 13, 2025) to a hero’s welcome, declaring the “historic dawn of a new Middle East” as the final 20 living Israeli hostages held by Hamas since October 2023 were released.

The release, secured through a ceasefire agreement brokered in part by the Trump administration, coincided with the President’s address to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

“We gather on a day of profound joy, of soaring hope, of renewed faith,” Trump was expected to say, according to excerpts released by the White House.

He received a long standing ovation, with many in the audience sporting “Trump The Peace President” hats.

Knesset Speaker lauded him as the “best friend Israel has ever had” in the White House, a sentiment echoed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“After so many years of unceasing war and endless danger, today, the skies are calm, the guns are silent, the sirens are still, and the sun rises on a Holy Land that is finally at peace,” Trump’s speech continued, according to the excerpts.

While the hostage release marks a significant breakthrough, the long-term implications for the millions of Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank remain uncertain.

The ceasefire agreement includes the release of Palestinian prisoners by Israel, but the details and scope of this exchange have not been fully disclosed.

Trump’s visit comes as part of a broader effort to solidify a lasting peace in the region.

Following his address to the Knesset, Trump is scheduled to attend an international “peace summit” in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, where he is expected to sign an agreement with over 20 world leaders.

The White House released a video showing Trump and Netanyahu meeting with the families of the released hostages before the Knesset address.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who were involved in the negotiations, along with White House special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, were also present at the Knesset.

While Trump’s arrival and the hostage release have been met with celebration in Israel, the future for Palestinians and the broader prospects for a just and lasting peace remain a complex and pressing question.

The details of the prisoner exchange and the long-term vision for the region will be crucial in determining whether this “new Middle East” truly benefits all its inhabitants.
