Former Prince Andrew Arrested, Released “Under Investigation” Amidst Epstein Ties, Misconduct Allegations

LONDON, UK – Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former prince and brother of King Charles III, was arrested and subsequently released “under investigation” on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Thames Valley Police have confirmed.

The arrest marks a dramatic escalation in the scrutiny surrounding the royal’s past associations and alleged improprieties.

“Thames Valley Police is able to provide an update in relation to an investigation into the offence of misconduct in public office,” the force stated. “On Thursday, we arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrested man has now been released under investigation. We can also confirm that our searches in Norfolk have now concluded.”

The arrest prompted searches at Wood Farm, Andrew’s residence on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, and Royal Lodge, his former home in Windsor.

While authorities have not specified the precise grounds for the arrest, it comes amid renewed focus on Andrew’s decade-long tenure as a UK trade envoy and allegations that he may have shared sensitive information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied all accusations against him, including claims that he witnessed or suspected any of the behavior of which Epstein was accused. He has yet to publicly address the latest allegations of misconduct in public office.

The arrest is a historic event, marking the first time in nearly 400 years that a senior British royal has been taken into custody.

King Charles III has reportedly expressed “deep concern” regarding the case, reiterating that “the law must take its course.”

The arrest has also reignited debate about the accountability of individuals connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The family of Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly alleged she was forced to have sex with Andrew while underage – allegations he has long denied – has expressed complex emotions.

“It’s a step in the right direction,” said Sky Roberts, Giuffre’s brother, while his wife Amanda expressed hope that King Charles III’s commitment to cooperation with authorities is genuine. She also drew a contrast with the perceived lack of accountability in the United States concerning individuals linked to Epstein.

“Where is the accountability here?” she asked. “I would hope that they start to take note of what’s going on in other countries.”

Roberts also alluded to a separate ongoing investigation in the UK involving Peter Mandelson, raising questions about the disparity in scrutiny between the two countries.

The arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on his 66th birthday underscores the seriousness of the situation and the potential consequences for the British monarchy.

As the investigation progresses, the world will be watching closely to observe how the legal process unfolds and whether further revelations emerge concerning the former prince’s conduct and his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Who Was Jeffrey Epstein?

“I’m not a sexual predator; I’m an ‘offender,'” Jeffrey Epstein infamously told the New York Post in 2011, attempting to minimize his crimes.

“It’s the difference between a murderer and a person who steals a bagel.” These words, chilling in retrospect, offer a glimpse into the mindset of a man who cultivated a life of wealth, influence, and ultimately, unspeakable abuse.

Epstein died in a New York prison cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, a decade after his conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor. The charges alleged he operated a “vast network” of underage girls for sex, to which he pleaded not guilty.

In November 2025, both chambers of the U.S. Congress overwhelmingly approved the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and President Donald Trump signed the bill, ordering the Justice Department to release all files from the criminal investigations into Epstein by December 19.

While some material was published on the deadline day, and subsequent releases followed, questions remain about the completeness of the disclosures. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that a release on January 30 represented “the end of a very comprehensive document identification and review process.” However, campaigners, including opposition Democrats, argue that the department has withheld too many documents without proper justification.

The released material has shed light on Epstein’s life and his circle of high-profile associates.

From Math Teacher to Millionaire

Born and raised in New York, Epstein taught mathematics and physics at the private Dalton School in the mid-1970s, despite never graduating from university himself. Impressed by his intellect, the father of one of his students connected him with a senior partner at Bear Stearns. Within four years, Epstein became a partner. By 1982, he had created his own firm, J. Epstein and Co., managing assets of over $1 billion.

Epstein’s wealth allowed him to acquire mansions in Florida and New York, a ranch in New Mexico, and cultivate relationships with celebrities, artists, and politicians.

In 2002, Donald Trump described Epstein to New York magazine as a “terrific guy” who “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” Trump later claimed the two had a falling out in the early 2000s, denying any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. The White House stated that Trump once kicked Epstein out of his club “decades ago for being a creep to his female employees,” claiming Epstein “stole” young women who worked at his Mar-a-Lago beach club spa.

A Network of Power

Beyond Trump, Epstein cultivated friendships with numerous high-profile figures. In 2002, he flew former President Bill Clinton, actors Kevin Spacey, and Chris Tucker to Africa on a private jet.

In 2003, he made an unsuccessful bid to buy New York magazine with then-film producer Harvey Weinstein and donated $30 million to Harvard University. He was also friends with UK politician Peter Mandelson, a friendship Mandelson later regretted, leading to his resignation from the Labour Party.

Despite his high-profile connections, Epstein reportedly shunned public events, preferring to maintain a private life. He dated women like Miss Sweden winner Eva Andersson Dubin and Ghislaine Maxwell, daughter of publisher Robert Maxwell, but never married.

Rosa Monckton, the former CEO of Tiffany & Co., described Epstein to Vanity Fair in 2003 as “very enigmatic” and “a classic iceberg,” stating, “You think you know him, and then you peel off another ring of the onion skin, and there’s something else extraordinary underneath. What you see is not what you get.”

A Deal with the Devil

In 2005, the parents of a 14-year-old girl reported to police in Florida that Epstein had molested their daughter at his Palm Beach home. A police search revealed photos of girls throughout the house.

The Miami Herald reported that Epstein’s abuse of underage girls dated back years. Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter stated, “This was not a ‘he said, she said’ situation. This was 50-something ‘shes’ and one ‘he’ – and the ‘shes’ all basically told the same story.”

Despite this overwhelming evidence, prosecutors forged a controversial deal with Epstein in 2008. He avoided federal charges, which could have resulted in a life sentence, and instead received an 18-month prison sentence with “work release” privileges. He was released on probation after 13 months.

The Miami Herald reported that federal prosecutor Alexander Acosta struck a plea agreement hiding the extent of Epstein’s crimes and ending an FBI investigation into whether there were more victims or powerful people involved. The paper described it as the “deal of the century.” Acosta resigned in July 2019 amidst the scandal, defending his actions as securing some jail time for Epstein.

Lingering Shadows, Unanswered Questions

Following his 2008 conviction, Epstein was listed as a level three sex offender in New York, considered at high risk of reoffending. He retained his properties and assets.

In December 2010, Prince Andrew was photographed with Epstein in New York’s Central Park, sparking controversy. In a November 2019 interview, Andrew claimed he went to New York in 2010 to end their friendship, regretting staying at Epstein’s house. Emails that surfaced years later revealed Andrew stayed in contact with Epstein longer than previously admitted. Amidst the ensuing scandal, Andrew was stripped of his royal titles in 2025.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre alleged that she was forced to have sex with Andrew in the early 2000s when she was 17. Andrew denied the allegations, but in 2022, he paid Giuffre millions to settle a lawsuit.

Epstein was arrested in New York on July 6, 2019, after returning from Paris. Prosecutors sought the forfeiture of his New York mansion, where some of his alleged crimes occurred. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Denied bail, Epstein was held in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. He was briefly hospitalized in July for reported neck injuries. At his last court appearance on July 31, it was clear he would spend a year in prison, with a trial no earlier than summer 2020.

Epstein never faced that trial.

The Maxwell Trial

After Epstein’s death, his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was arrested in July 2020 on suspicion of assisting Epstein’s abuse of minors. In December 2021, a jury found her guilty on five out of six counts, including sex trafficking of a minor. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Maxwell is said to have introduced Epstein to many of her wealthy and powerful friends, including Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew. Former employees described Maxwell as the house manager at Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion, overseeing the girls.

The full extent of Epstein’s network and the involvement of others remains a subject of intense scrutiny. The release of the Epstein files has provided some answers, but many questions linger, leaving a dark stain on the world of wealth, power, and privilege.
