MANILA, Philippines – AirAsia Philippines has decisively settled a critical P271.94 million debt to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), averting a looming cease-and-desist order just days before its enforcement deadline.

This swift resolution comes as AirAsia Group vehemently denies “entirely false” media reports of operational grounding, decrying them as a “deliberate smear campaign” targeting fair competition in the Philippine aviation sector.

Contrary to recent sensationalized headlines, AirAsia Group confirms that all Philippines AirAsia (flight code: Z2) operations remain fully functional. Flights and services are proceeding as scheduled across its network, subject only to standard operational considerations.

AirAsia Group co-founder and advisor Tony Fernandes condemned the “coordinated” reports, stating they serve “only the interests of those seeking to limit consumer choice and create conditions that could lead to a monopoly in the market.” He emphasized that a monopoly ultimately harms travelers through reduced competition, fewer choices, and significantly higher airfares.

Fernandes underscored AirAsia’s unwavering commitment to the Philippines, where it carries nearly seven million guests annually. “We are deeply invested in the country, its people, and its future,” he affirmed. For over a decade, AirAsia has been instrumental in democratizing air travel, making flying accessible to millions of Filipinos.

Looking ahead, AirAsia expressed significant investment in developing new airport infrastructure, including at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). These enhancements are projected to unlock growth, improve connectivity, boost operational efficiency, and further reduce costs. As AirAsia expands its fleet to become a narrow-body global low-cost network carrier, it plans to deploy additional aircraft to its Philippine operations. This expansion will allow Philippines AirAsia to broaden its network, offer even more competitive fares, and continue delivering greater value to Filipino travelers.

In Manila, CAAP lauded AirAsia Philippines’ prompt action, acknowledging the airline’s cooperation and proactive engagement in resolving its substantial financial obligation. This swift settlement underscores CAAP’s dedication to fostering a stable and compliant aviation sector. The Authority reiterated its commitment to collaborating with all aviation stakeholders, ensuring robust regulatory adherence and safeguarding the traveling public’s interests through reliable air transport. The resolution marks a significant step in maintaining industry stability and upholding accountability within the Philippine aviation landscape.

Philippines AirAsia remains steadfast in its mission to serve the public, support tourism and economic growth, and ensure every Filipino has access to safe, affordable, and reliable air travel.
