MANILA, Philippines  – The Department of Tourism (DOT) has appointed former Philippine Airlines (PAL) President Captain Stanley K. Ng as its newest Undersecretary. This strategic move signals a commitment to revitalizing the nation’s tourism sector.

Ng, a distinguished aviation executive, brings invaluable experience essential for addressing air connectivity challenges and accelerating the industry’s post-pandemic recovery. His appointment is part of a newly formed leadership team, which includes Undersecretaries Maria Victoria Jasmin and Maria Dionesia Rivera-Guillermo.

Together, they are poised to lead a comprehensive overhaul of the Philippines’ tourism infrastructure, aiming to surpass pre-pandemic performance and solidify the country’s status as a premier global destination.

During his tenure at PAL, Ng championed significant initiatives, including extensive route network expansion, fleet modernization, and the recovery of international flight operations. This expertise is expected to be instrumental in the DOT’s efforts to enhance accessibility and streamline travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors.

The DOT emphasizes that this experienced management team will significantly amplify existing programs designed to expand regional tourism destinations and strengthen collaborations with private sector stakeholders, fostering a more integrated tourism ecosystem.

“Their extensive experience from both the public and private sectors provides invaluable expertise and leadership,” the DOT affirmed. “This will undoubtedly enhance the Department’s programs, partnerships, and drive a more competitive, inclusive, and sustainable Philippine tourism industry.” The agency eagerly anticipates their contributions in empowering tourism stakeholders, local communities, and travelers alike.

Captain Stanley K. Ng: A Legacy of Transformative Leadership

Captain Stanley K. Ng embodies exceptional leadership and a profound understanding of the aviation industry. In 2022, he made history as the youngest President and Chief Operating Officer of Philippine Airlines (PAL) and the first active pilot in nearly six decades to ascend to the airline’s top executive role. This dual distinction highlights his unique blend of operational mastery and strategic vision.

His journey within PAL is a remarkable narrative of ascent. Starting as ground staff in 2004, Captain Ng meticulously cultivated his career, culminating in distinguished service as an active commercial pilot and Senior Vice President for Operations. This foundational experience provided him with a holistic perspective, preparing him to steer the flag carrier through a pivotal period.

Under Captain Ng’s dynamic leadership, PAL achieved a transformative financial resurgence. The airline not only surpassed ambitious financial targets but also strategically expanded its route networks, notably launching the Manila-Seattle nonstop service. This expansion, coupled with his commitment to operational excellence, earned PAL recognition as one of the most punctual airlines in the Asia-Pacific region.

Captain Ng’s academic background, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Major in Computer Applications from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), further underscores his comprehensive skill set, bridging business management complexities with technological foresight.

While Captain Ng has transitioned from his direct role as PAL President and COO to join PAL Holdings, his impact on the airline’s trajectory remains profound. His legacy is one of strategic growth, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to the future of Philippine aviation.
