Each individual has been sentenced to prison terms ranging from a minimum of four years and two months to a maximum of 20 years for their roles in the elaborate “estafa” (fraud) operation.

Furthermore, the court mandated that the six defendants jointly compensate Bloomberry Resorts and Hotels Inc., the operator of Solaire Resort & Casino, with P39.747 million in actual damages. This restitution will accrue an annual interest of 6% from the finality of the decision until the full amount is settled, underscoring the severe financial repercussions of such criminal endeavors.

A dummy card carrier was surreptitiously introduced into Solaire and concealed within a restroom facility.

 A legitimate carrier, containing eight standard baccarat decks, was illicitly removed from a secure cabinet at Pit 56 and swapped with the pre-arranged, manipulated carrier.

Afternoon Arrival

 The five foreign defendants subsequently arrived at the designated baccarat table, initially placing seemingly innocuous bets averaging P10,000 to P20,000.

4:59 p.m.

The carrier containing the pre-arranged cards was strategically placed on the table, setting the stage for the fraudulent play.

The court unequivocally characterized this manipulation as “precisely a fraudulent practice to ensure success in a gambling game.” The ruling solidified the roles of the co-conspirators: Miguel, the pit manager, was deemed responsible for facilitating the manipulated game, while the five foreign nationals directly profited from the illicitly altered outcomes.

Notably, the five foreign defendants had previously absconded, leading to the forfeiture of their bail bonds and the issuance of warrants for their arrest, highlighting their attempt to evade justice. Reynante Miguel, however, remained in the Philippines and testified in his defense.
