HAMMONTON, NJ – A midair collision between two helicopters in southern New Jersey on Sunday resulted in one fatality and one injury, authorities have confirmed.

The incident occurred at about 11:25 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, near Hammonton Municipal Airport.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft involved were identified as an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C helicopter.

Preliminary reports indicate that only the pilots were aboard each helicopter at the time of the collision.

Emergency responders, including the Hammonton Fire Department, arrived on the scene to find the wreckage scattered across a field.

Hammonton Fire Department Chief Sean Macri said both victims were immediately airlifted to a nearby trauma center.

One of the pilots was reportedly in “possible cardiac arrest” upon arrival at emergency medical services.

Eyewitness accounts and preliminary visual assessments paint a grim picture of the scene.

Video footage depicts mangled aircraft debris, with rotor blades strewn across the field.

The Enstrom F-28A was identified by its red coloring and significant damage, while the Enstrom 280C was described as “a pile of mangled metal that was on fire,” according to Macri.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the crash.

An investigator has been dispatched to the site to collect critical data, including flight track information, aircraft maintenance records, air traffic control communications, and witness statements.

The wreckage of both helicopters will be transported to a secure facility for detailed evaluation.

Local and state officials have expressed their condolences and concerns.

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker acknowledged the tragedy on social media, stating that his office is in contact with the NTSB and is actively seeking further information.

Sen. Andy Kim echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the community’s support for the affected families. The investigation is ongoing.
